The Great Crossway Cup

Once again, in order to be accurate about the times of the events listed in this most likely utterly boring account, I will start with just before we left for the field. I was shaving the small amount of hair on my head even shorter(and debated doing a really small mohawk), and Josh was consuming great quantities of pizza, right up till the time when we had to leave. On the way to the field the car was silent as each person silently prepared themselves for the great struggle to come. We arrived at the field, had a quick warmup then the Game was on. For anyone who didn't know, the crossway cup is a yearly church soccer match in which the players 25 and under are always trounced by the oldies. This game began a bit different, however, as the Whites (the under 25 team) got a quick boost on the oldies after a beautiful header goal by our very own Josh Sczebel. But the game was by no means sealed up, and the oldies fought back hard to score a goal on a four-on-one break down the field against White goaltender Joel Sczebel (crossed out) or in other words me.

I have to say that I did make one big save but because there were four of them and one of me, they just took the rebound and shot it in from about four feet away. At halftime I switched positions with another player, and got to play forward for the second half, while all the really little kids (including Sammy) got to take shots on the pastors who were playing goal blindfolded. It was very entertaining.

As the second half began White came on with a flurry of offence, putting up two unanswered goals both assisted by Josh and I. I also got two wide open breakaways and was robbed both times by the Oldie's Goalie. For the next Forty minutes with insufficient subs and growing fatigue the Whites held on to beat the Oldies for the first time ever in the Crossway Cup 3-1.;

Thanks for Cheering.
